Once Neeraj Agnihotri said: “Social media not only snatches your time, but it also teaches you attention deficiency”, and I agree with him. Nowadays one of the most common addictions among people and especially among teenagers is the internet. The latter, in my view, is taking up a lot of space in people's lives, the dangerousness of it and the consequences it can take like for example getting bad grades

First of all, we easily get addicted to our phones and it is very difficult to get them off of us. The urge to use the phone is an irresistible thing that if you become addicted it is very difficult to take it off. For example, in my case, when I go out with my friends and there is a moment where we do nothing the first thing you do is to pick up the phone and check the notifications, and then at that moment, there is a dead silence because everyone is silent, using their phones. (Anderson and Jiang).

Furthermore, when we surf the internet we continually come across strangers who we don't even know to exist. This is a very disturbing thing with which you have to be very careful because on the other side of the screen there could be any person like a serial killer or a pedophile. Pedophiles who contact children anonymously are something that happens thousands of times all over the world and that causes rape, many murders, and kidnappings. The fastest method these pedophiles use to approach kids is to pretend to be someone their age and arrange a date. So one piece of advice I give to all teenagers is never to trust anyone on the internet because there are a lot of sick and crazy people who have very bad intentions.

As a last consequence, but it is certainly not the last because there are so many, are the performances at school. Excessive use of social networks especially until late in the evening greatly affects our grades at school. However, according to the studies, the time that teens sleep affects their performance during the daytime (Mazzola). Seeing as many teenagers stay late into the evening on social media when they wake up in the morning to go to school, or they are tired or not at their maximum capacity and this is something very worrying.

In conclusion, the Internet is very useful in everyday life, but we must not abuse it. Teens who use social media too much are missing out on the best things in life, for example by socializing with new people, so they always risk meeting malicious people on the internet and ultimately don't give their best in school. We need to inform our young people about the use of the Internet and show them how to use it consciously.

  1. I think that you do not join much to any subject, you talk about everything in a somewhat general way, it seems to me that those problems although they are very important, you do not talk about many of them, like the people behind the screen. The way of narrating it is fine but you come and go with some themes.

  2. I believe what you have written about how internet addiction affects school grades is very accurate. I have experienced and still see some symptoms even today, which had been up to now. I don’t have any social media platforms on my phone right now and try to focus on my exam in may.
