Internet Addiction Blog

Have you ever wondered where is half of the young people while you are walking outside? Well, my friend, we know the answer, probably at their house gaming, or looking at their phone. It doesn’t mean that they are “outside” if they are falling in their phone outside their house; they are in a box that they can’t leave. If you cannot get outside the “box” here are some ways to get outside: set an alarm to regulate your activity, declare free zones with your family, and if the other two are no good, seek an expert immediately.

Setting an alarm is probably the most primitive way of controlling your “addiction.” I have never seen or heard someone use this technique in my life but on paper, it should work. It is just simply adjusting a certain period of time for you to go on the internet (Young). It is mostly used to smother the desire of children for the internet or gaming by their parents. There is one thing to be given attention to: obey the clock. The alarm is simply there to dull your addiction, and disobeying the alarm and continuing whatever you are doing while having the line in your head “Just 5 more minutes.” or “I will quit when it is done.” just reinforces your addiction. Trust me, experience speaking.

An alternative solution for your addiction is declaring free zones with your family. If you cannot manage to deal with your internet addiction alone, enjoying some free time might be good for you too. Having some free time together with some family members could distract you from trying to connect to the internet (Joyce). Remember, always connecting to the internet will eventually disconnect your relationships with the real world and your beloved family and friends.

Finally, At the very end of every addiction, the secret key lies under your pride. Many people reject receiving help from a professional or psychologist. I believe that is because people think they had it under control and manage to do things themselves, but the real thing is, no, they can’t. This is why pride is the key to everything: stop dealing with things on your own, and seek some professional help. If not, long-term negative effects may show up (Anderson).

In conclusion, internet addiction is a considerable addiction, which coronavirus helped a lot, and it may even be fatal if it gets to have a place in your life. You can try things on your own to reduce the effects of it, but if it is already out of hand, you should seek intervention immediately. As a writer of this blog, I am counting on you that you will overcome your addiction and reconnect to life once again!

  2. I really like your second paragraph saying that to regulate your internet addiction you should try to reconnect to real life with your family. The only thing is that even if you are with your family at home you have this reflex to grab your phone and check your messages. I think the best way to change is to spend more and more time outside and to do special activities with your close relations like visting a monument or going to a show.
